Located in Midlothian, VA's Westchester Commons Shopping Center, The Shaved Duck Restaurant is local family-owned & operated "upscale-casual" dining venue, focused on first-class cuisine & seasonal craft cocktails.

 

We are proud to be defined as a "scratch kitchen", meaning all recipes, dishes & products are produced from raw, seasonally local ingredients. This means all elements of our dishes are executed start to finish, in-house.

 

Our non-traditional "New American" menu incorporates a variety of international influences & cooking techniques, featuring local produce & seasonal ingredients. We are passionate about fashioning edgy variations of classic dishes, inspired by various cultures around the world.

The grand opening of The Shaved Duck Restaurant in 2017 was a dream come true for owner and general manager Joe Kmetz, whose lifelong vision was to open a family-owned-and-operated business. The Shaved Duck "name" was solidified during a late night brainstorming session (with a little help from a few swigs of whiskey) and fond memories of his grandparents' love of duck memorabilia. Joe’s grandfather was an avid collector, and it was the group of carved (shaved) ducks that impressed Joe the most.  

 

​A graduate of Midlothian High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, Joe was always drawn to the hospitality industry. His experience spans a multitude of roles– from a cook behind the scenes in the kitchen, to the forefront– as a busboy, server, manager and all around "friendly face," honing his customer service and managerial skills while forming a loyal following along the way.​
